Seniors in Seamus O'Riain Cup Semi Final
September 2nd, 2008

Senior Hurling
A late surge gave the senior hurlers a two point home victory against Nenagh in the quarter-final of the Seamus O Riain Cup on a 3-12 to 1-16 scoreline. Nenagh had a two point interval lead, and looked set for victory until a late Mikey Costello goal spurred MacDonaghs into action. The home team finished strongly to book their place in the semi-final against Upperchurch-Drombane. This game is scheduled for September 21st. Team: Ger Corcoran, Gavin McAvinchey, Martin Walsh, Padraig Kelly, Eoin Hogan, Stephen Murphy, Alan Ryan, Seamus Hennessy (0-4), Kevin Quinlan, Mark O Leary (0-3), Thomas Williams, Brian O Meara (1-1), Shane Quinlan (0-1), Pat Williams (1-2) and Mikey Costello (1-1). Subs: Freddie Williams and Kevin Ryan.

Seven-a-Side
After a long absence the senior hurlers participate in the Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland sevens on next Saturday.

County Representation
David Reddan played in goals for the Tipperary u-16 hurling in the Arrabawn tournament last weekend. They reached the Plate final where they lost out to Waterford. Unfortunately illness prevented Niall O Meara from taking his place in the squad. Jack Peters played on the Tipperary u-14 team which made it to the semi-final of the Tony Forristal tournament in Waterford where Cork pipped them by a point.

U-14 Hurling
The u-14 hurlers play Kildangan in the semi-final in Nenagh on this Wednesday at 6.15 p.m.

Minors Unlucky in Quarter Final
August 25th, 2008

Minor Hurling
The minor hurlers were beaten in the quarter-final by Borris-Ileigh on a 2-13 to 0-17 scoreline. Borris-Ileigh had the better of matters in the first half and held a five point interval lead. The selectors made a number of positional changes at the break and Kilruane began to reel in their opponents In the final quarter MacDonaghs had drawn level but against the run of play Borris-Ileigh scored their second goal. Sustained late pressure failed to yield the desired goal with two points separating the sides at the final whistle. With only six of last years first fifteen available the team exceeded expectations and had some great victories during the campaign. Team: David Reddan, Niall Murphy, Eanna Hogan, Timmy Walsh, Justin Cahill, William Cleary, Scott Hodgins, Keith Kelly, Pat Conway, James Williams (0-3), Brian O Meara (0-7), Thomas Cleary (0-2), Niall O Meara (0-4), Sean Hayes and Eoin Williams. Subs: Ronan Boyle and Sean Kelly (0-1).

U-21 Hurling
Seamus Hennessy captained Tipperary u-21 team to victory against Derry in the All-Ireland semi-final. Ray McLoughney was introduced and Eoin Hogan was also on the panel.

North Final
Well done to Michael Cahill who refereed his seventh North senior hurling final last Sunday. He refereed his first senior final in 1988 when Borris-ileigh defeated Roscrea. Michael is in second place behind Donie Nealon of Burgess who tops the list with eleven finals. Martin Kennedy was the first clubman to referee a North senior final when he was the man in the middle of the 1927 final when Toomevara overcame Youghalarra while Con Heffernan took charge of four deciders.

Lotto
Congratulations to Donal ‘Mouse’ Costello Cloughjordan who scooped the latest lotto jackpot of €3,000. The jackpot resumes at €3,000. Thanks to all our subscribers and promoters whose loyalty ensures the continued success of the lotto.

Sympathy
The club would like to extend its sympathy to the Mulcahy family Ardcroney on the death of Cindy Mulcahy.

u21s and Minors Qualify from Group Stages
August 18th, 2008

U-21 Hurling
The u-21 hurlers completed the group stage unbeaten with a 4-14 to 0-12 victory against Lorrha in Ballinderry. This win guarantees a semi-final place. The game was played in heavy underfoot conditions, which made hurling difficult for both sides. MacDonaghs had the aid of the breeze in the opening half and goals from Ray McLoughney and Seamus Hennessy helped them to a ten point interval lead. Further goals from Shane Quinlan and Ray McLoughney in the second half proved to be decisive in securing the points. Team: Ger Corcoran, Freddie Williams, Martin Walsh, Padraig Kelly, Liam Gibson (0-1), Eoin Hogan, Gavin McAvinchey, Seamus Hennessy (1-6), Kevin Ryan, James Williams, Brian O Meara, Shane Quinlan (1-1), Declan Barrett, Ray McLoughney (2-3) and Michael Costello (0-3). Sub: Timmy Walsh.

Minor Hurling
The minor hurlers lost out on an opportunity to claim a semi-final spot when they were beaten by Newport Gaels in MacDonagh Park on a 3-15 to 2-8 scoreline. Three teams in the group finished top on equal points but an inferior score difference means MacDonaghs have to be satisfied with a quarter final against Borris-Ileigh. Newport dominated the first half and built up a healthy half time lead. Kilruane fared much better in the second half without ever threatening victory and Newport were deserving winners. Team: Robert Ward, Niall Murphy, David Reddan, Timmy Walsh, Justin Cahill (0-1), William Cleary, Keith Kelly, Thomas Cleary (0-1), Pat Conway, James Williams, Brian O Meara (1-4), Niall O Meara (0-1) and Eoin Williams (1-1). Sub: Sean Kelly.

U-12 Hurling
The u-12 hurlers gave a very good account of themselves before losing out to the eventual champions Roscrea in the semi-final on a 3-4 to 0-4 scoreline. The game was played in constant rain but both sides coped well. At the interval the teams were level on two points each. On the resumption Roscrea hit the front with a goal and a point but MacDonaghs responded with two great points from midfielder Cian Darcy. Kilruane piled on the pressure but it was Roscrea who struck the crucial blow with their second goal. A third goal on the call of time didn’t do justice to the MacDonaghs team, which played with great heart. Congratulations to the Roscrea team, which went on to take the title and we wish them the best in the county semi-final. Team: Niall Shinners, William Ryan, Abhain Coleman, Brendan McAdams, Jack Farrell, Darragh Peters, Caolainn Conroy, Conor Doheny (0-2), Cian Darcy (0-2), Kieran Brereton, Kieran Lillis, James Cleary, Keelan Troy, Cillian Finn and Tom Dooley. Sub: Martin Grace.

Congrats to our Tipperary U21 Players
August 5th, 2008

Munster Final
Congratulations to Seamus Hennessy, Ray McLoughney and Eoin Hogan on Tipperary’s victory against Clare in the Munster u-21 final. Seamus played a captain’s part and had an outstanding game at midfield and while Ray and Eoin saw no action they both could yet play influential roles before the year is out. Nine players from the Kilruane MacDonaghs club have won Munster u-21 medals. Len Gaynor was the first in 1964, the inaugural year of the competition. Seamus Hennessy became the third MacDonaghs player to lead Tipperary to honours. In 1964 Liam Tierney captained the Premier County to victory in the Munster intermediate final and in 1975 Paddy Williams skippered the Blue and Gold in the National League triumph against Galway in Limerick.

U-12 Hurling
The u-12 hurlers lost their final group game to Nenagh Eire Óg on a 1-9 to 1-2 scoreline. Team: Niall Shinners, William Ryan, Abhain Coleman, Brendan McAdams, Jack Farrell, Darragh Peters, Caolainn Conroy, Conor Doheny (0-2), Cian Darcy, Kieran Brereton, Kieran Lillis, Cillian Finn, James Cleary, Keelan Troy and Cormac Boyle. Sub: Martin Grace

Junior Hurling
The junior hurlers made their exit from the championship when they came out the wrong end of a 3-13 to 1-17 scoreline against Lorrha in Borrisokane. They scored enough to win, including 1-11 from play, but lapses in the defence allowed Lorrha in for three green flags, which scuttled the chances of victory. Team: Ruan Casey, David Slattery, Colin England, Freddie Williams, William Cleary, Kevin Ryan (0-2), Fergal England, Michael Reddan (0-4), Denis Cahill (0-1), James Williams (0-2), Edmond Morkan (0-1), Thomas Williams (0-6), Ronan Boyle (1-0), Declan Barrett and Brendan Ryan (0-1). Munster Final
July 22nd, 2008

Munster Final
Congratulations to coach Eamon O Shea, physio John Casey and the Tipperary senior team on their victory against Clare. Comiserations to Brian O Meara and the minor team which lost to Cork. They can still regroup and take the scenic route to All-Ireland success.

Primary Game
Stephen Cleary and Alanna Morris from Kilruane N.S. played on the Tipperary Primary Game teams in Limerick last Sunday. Both players acquitted themselves well.

U-16 Hurling
The u-16 hurlers had a three-point victory against Burgess in Kilcolman on a 0-15 to 1-9 scoreline. The home side hit the ground running and struck the first two points. MacDonaghs soon settled and some well taken scores saw them take a three-point advantage into the break with the scoreboard reading 0-9 to 1-3 in their favour. On the resumption both defences dominated and scores were at a premium. Burgess nibbled away at the lead and with less than two minutes had edged a point ahead. In an extended period of added time, due to two injuries, MacDonaghs finished with a flourish by striking four unanswered points to overcome a very good Burgess side. In the fourth round Kilruane MacDonaghs are at home to Newport Gaels on Monday July 14th at 7.30 p.m. Team: Robert Ward, Eoin Burns, Eanna Hogan, Robert Austin, Jack Peters, Justin Cahill, Alan Darcy, David Reddan (0-4), Sean Kelly (0-1) P.J. Cleary (0-1), Niall O Meara (0-7), Kieran Cahill, James O Sullivan and Eoin Williams (0-2).

U-14 Hurling
The u-14 hurlers recorded their second successive win with a 7-7 to 4-6 victory against Roscrea in MacDonagh Park. Roscrea just shaded the first half, chalking up 3-4 to Kilruane’s 3-3. For the second half, P.J. Cleary was switched to fullback and this helped stabilise the home defence. With five minutes left the sides were locked together at 4-6 each but MacDonaghs finished strongly, shooting 3-1 without reply to take the points. Team: Anthony Spillane, Darragh Peters, John Healy, Patrick Ryan, Dean O Meara, Jack Peters, Stephen Cleary (1-0), Tomás Hogan, Raymond Kelly, Sean Cleary (0-1), P.J. Cleary, Jack Banaghan (0-1), Kieran Cahill (2-4), Andrew Brennan (4-1) and Bob Dooley. Subs: Aidan Boyle, Conor Nevin, David Mooney and Mark Tierney.

U-12 Hurling
The u-12 hurlers participated in a blitz organised by the Portlaoise club last Saturday. The defeated the home side and lost out to Dicksboro and Castlecomer of Kilkenny. The blitz was non-competitive with no medals or trophies to be won. Half of each game was ground hurling and this helped to ensure evenly balanced games. In the fourth round of the championship Kilruane MacDonaghs lost out by three points to Toomevara in St Michael’s Park. The next game is away to Roscrea.

Summer Camp
Almost seventy boys and girls attended the annual Cúl Summer Camp in MacDonagh Park. The weather remained favourable and this added to the enjoyment of all. On the opening day John Costigan chairman of the county board and county youth officer Nicholas Moroney paid a courtesy call to the camp. Tipperary hurler Shane McGrath also attended on the same day and received an enthusiastic reception. On Friday a camera crew attended to take footage for a television advertisement for the 2009 Cúl Camps. At the conclusion of the Camp each participant was presented with a certificate and a medal. Coaches Brendan Maher, Matthew Ryan, Cian Hogan, Teresa Shanahan and Maria Tynan provided a varied and structured programme each day. Supervisor Len Gaynor ensured that everything ran smoothly. Helpers Niall O Meara, Lisa Cahill, Eoin Williams and Kieran Cahill provided valuable assistance to the coaches. Thanks to caretaker Pat Williams who had the MacDonagh Park facilities in their customary mint condition. A special word of thanks to Teresa Feighery who provided the daily refreshments.

Coaching
Hurling coaching for all primary school boys continues on Saturday at 11 0 clock. Michael O Neill and his team will be on duty.

Sympathy
The club would like to extend its sympathy to the Quinlan family Clermont on the sudden passing of Kilruane MacDonaghs vice-president Paddy Quinlan. Paddy was a native of Loughmore and when he moved to the parish in the mid-sixties he immersed himself enthusiastically in club affairs. He pioneered football in the club and was responsible for affiliating the first juvenile football team from the parish in 1967. Paddy was very active in the juvenile club during a very successful period in the seventies. He was also a selector on the senior hurling team, which contested the 1973 county final. Paddy was a mentor on the senior football team, which defeated his native Loughmore in the 1975 county final. He was highly regarded as an administrator and was one of the North Tipperary representatives on the county board for a number of years. He was club chairman from 1977 to 1979 when the senior hurlers won three county titles in a row. Paddy was highly respected as a shrewd selector and keen analyst and his colleagues within the club often sought his advice. His contributions and observations at club meetings were always incisive and constructive. Club members formed a guard of honour at his funeral and his coffin was draped in the Kilruane MacDonaghs colours. Ar dheis láimh Dé go raibh a anam uasal.

The club would also like to extend its sympathy to Kathleen and Mary Cahill on the death of their sister Esther Murphy.

Minors Win Again
July 22nd, 2008

Minor Hurling
The minor hurlers guaranteed themselves a quarter final spot with a 3-17 to 2-10 away victory against Eire Óg Nenagh. They followed up their first round victory against Templederry with an impressive display against a good Nenagh side. With county minor Brian O Meara leading by example MacDonaghs had the better of matters in the first half and were not flattered by a one point interval lead with the score 1-8 to 1-7. On the resumption Kilruane continued to dominate and a Niall O Meara goal helped to open a seven point lead. Nenagh fought back and reduced the deficit to three points. Then full forward Sean Hayes latched on to a Sean Kelly cross to raise a crucial green flag. Four unanswered points helped seal an important victory. The final group game will be at home to Newport Gaels. Team: David Reddan, Niall Murphy, Eanna Hogan, Timmy Walsh, Scott Hodgins, William Cleary, Justin Cahill (0-1), Keith Kelly, Pat Conway, James Williams (0-2), Brian O Meara (1-10), Ronan Boyle, Niall O Meara (1-3), Sean Hayes (1-0) and Eoin Williams. Team: Ruan Casey, Timmy Walsh, Colin England, Freddie Williams, William Cleary, Kevin Ryan, Fergal England, Michael Reddan, Jason Darcy, Denis Cahill, James Williams, Ronan Boyle, Declan Barrett and Darren Killackey. Wins for U12s, U14s and Minors
July 7th, 2008

Minor Hurling
The minor hurlers opened their campaign with a three point home victory against Templederry Kenyons on a 1-17 to 1-4 scoreline. MacDonaghs had the better of matters in the first half and deservedly held a six-point lead at the break with the scoreboard reading 1-10 to 0-7 in their favour. The only goal of the half came from a Brian O Meara penalty after full forward Sean Hayes had being hauled down. The second half was very even with both sides adding seven points to their tally. Templederry scored an injury time goal to reduce the arrears to three points at the final whistle. The next game will be away to Nenagh Eire Og. Team: David Reddan, Niall Murphy, Eanna Hogan, Timmy Walsh, Justin Cahill (0-1), William Cleary, Scott Hodgins, Pat Conway (0-2), Keith Kelly, James Williams (0-4), Brian O Meara (1-9), Ronan Boyle (0-1), Niall O Meara, Sean Hayes and Eoin Williams. Sub: Alan Darcy.

U-14 Hurling

The u-14 hurlers made a successful start to the championship with a 3-9 to 2-5 away victory against Nenagh Eire Og. The home team was first off the mark with a point but MacDonaghs responded by hitting 1-4, without reply. Full forward Andrew Brennan ghosted in behind the defence for the goal and lively corner forward Bob Dooley pounced for another later on in the half. MacDonaghs had a nine-point cushion at the break. On the resumption Conor Cleary raised a third green flag to extend the lead. Nenagh finished strongly and scored two goals leave a margin of seven points at the finish. The next game is away to Roscrea on Wednesday July 9th at 7 o clock. Team: Anthony Spillane, John Healy, Conor Austin, Patrick Ryan, Dean O Meara, Jack Peters (0-1), Conor Nevin, Tomás Hogan (0-1), Sean Cleary, Stephen Cleary, Kieran Cahill (0-5), Jack Banaghan, Conor Cleary (1-1), Andrew Brennan (1-0) and Bob Dooley (1-0). Subs: Raymond Kelly, Aidan Boyle, P.J. Cleary, Peter Blessing and David Mooney.

U-12 Hurling
The u-12 hurlers recorded their second victory in the championship with a 3-3 to 2-3 home victory against Toomevara. A bright start by MacDonaghs saw them open up a four-point gap in the first half, which was played in typical wet and windy Irish summer weather. At the interval Toomevara had drawn level with both teams having scored 1-2. In a hard fought second half very little separated the sides. In the last quarter Toomevara hit the front with a goal but a determined MacDonaghs outfit battled back and a crucial goal from Conor Doheny helped clinch the points for the home side. Team; Niall Shinners, Tom Dooley, Keelan Troy, Cormac Boyle, Caoilainn Conroy, Darragh Peters, William Ryan, James Cleary, Cian Darcy, Kieran Lillis, Abhain Coleman, Paul Guidera, Conor Doheny (2-3), Cillian Finn and Kieran Brereton. Wins for U16s and Juniors
June 30th, 2008

U-16 Hurling
The u-16 hurlers began their campaign with a hard earned two point away victory against Nenagh Eire Og on a 1-14 to 1-12 scoreline. All through the game there was very little between two evenly matched sides. MacDonaghs were quickly into their stride and captain Niall O Meara on target with a number of well taken points. He also added a goal before Nenagh began to find their feet and at the interval the teams were locked together at 1-6. It was score for score in the second half and as the game entered the final minutes the contest seemed destined to end in a draw. Sean Kelly was switched to full-forward and he raised two white flags to secure a valuable brace of points for MacDonaghs. Team: Robert Ward, Eoin Burns, Eanna Hogan, Robert Austin, Jack Peters, Justin Cahill (0-1), Alan Darcy, David Reddan (0-6), Eoin Williams, (0-1) Jamie Heffernan, Thomas Cleary, Sean Kelly (0-2), James Sullivan, Niall O Meara (1-3) and Kieran Cahill (0-1). Sub: Aidan Boyle.

They followed up with a good home victory against Templederry. Opportunist goals from Eoin Williams and Thomas Cleary in the first half helped set MacDonaghs on the road to victory

U-12 Hurling
The u-12 hurlers lost out to Nenagh Eire Og in the second round of the championship on a 1-5 to 0-3 scoreline. The teams were on level terms at break. In a very competitive game the result was in doubt up to the final minute when Nenagh scored the only goal of the game to secure victory. Team: Niall Shinners, Tom Dooley, Keelan Troy, Cormac Boyle, Jack Farrell, Darragh Peters, Caolainn Conroy, Abhain Coleman (0-1), Cian Darcy (0-1) Kieran Brereton, Kieran Lillis, Conor Doheny (0-10, Cillian Finn and Ciaran Spillane. Sub: Paul Guidera.

In the third round Kilruane MacDonaghs are at home to Toomevara on Tuesday July 1st at 6.30 p.m.

Junior Hurling
The junior hurlers had a four point win against Nenagh Eire Og in the second round of the championship on a 1-10 to 0-9 scoreline. MacDonaghs began brightly and a James Williams goal after four minutes put them into a four point lead. 600 Club - Win a car or €15,000 euro
January 27th, 2008
You will probably be aware that Kilruane MacDonaghs are building a new hurling wall in MacDonagh Park Cloughjordan. This wall will be an invaluable tool for club members of all ages to hone their skills. An advantage of a hurling wall over a ball alley is that many players can use the hurling wall at the same time.

The cost to build the hurling wall will be approximately €35,000. In order to fund this we are running a "600 club" draw with a first prize of a Citroen C3 car or €15,000. Other prizes include a trip for two to New York and a European city break. See www.kilruanemacdonaghs.com/600.php for more details.

For those living in the club a committee member may ask you to buy a ticket to enter the draw, or you can email info@kilruanemacdonaghs.com to request a ticket. Tickets cost €100 and are limited to 600 meaning that 1 in every 30 people entering the draw will receive a prize. The draw will take place on March 16th and many tickets are already sold.

For those of you living outside the club or abroad you can order a ticket by emailing me at info@kilruanemacdonaghs.com.

Thanks for your continued support for Kilruane MacDonaghs GAA club.

Adjourned AGM
January 21st, 2008
There was a very good attendance at the Adjourned Convention in the clubroom. Brian Gaynor manager of the minor team named Michael Cleary, David Quinlan, Michael Hogan and Dinny Cahill as his selectors. There was a good discussion on the affiliation of the minor team with many contributions from the floor. The general consensus was that the minor team should enter the A championship. Gilbert Williams suggested that the A championship be seeded and the meeting decided to forward a motion to the North Board.

It was also agreed that the minors should enter a football team. Members also debated the affiliation of an u-21 football team. The majority present felt that the u-21s had no interest in football and were over burdened with hurling games both for club and college so it was decided not to affiliate an u-21 football team for 2008. It was agreed unanimously to enter a junior football team in the championship.

Gilbert Williams gave a progress report on the club’s motion to the County Board in relation to the senior hurling championship. Support was coming from the four divisions and it looked like the tide was turning in favour of the Kilruane MacDonaghs motion and against the status quo. Fr. Sheehys had tabled a similar motion to ours, which also proposed a revitalized divisional championship and the abolition of relegation. All agreed that it was of the utmost importance that one of the motions succeeded.

John Cahill reported on the efforts to select the most appropriate site for the hurling wall. John and a number of other club members had met with Finbar McLoughney and had inspected a number of sites. John explained the advantages and disadvantages of each location. Roche Williams had some reservations about the sites chosen and suggested a number of alternatives. It was decided to look at these and report back to the next meeting.

Connie Grace announced that the sub committee appointed by the club to assess the different fund raising options was recommending club a 600 club and said that it would take a huge effort to make it a success. The money raised would be used to finance the construction of the hurling wall. The sub committee had considered all options but deemed the 600 club the most effective way of raising the €35,000 needed.

Connie Grace announced the composition of both the finance and games committees. He nominated Christy Morgan as chairman of the games committee. The first committee meeting was fixed for Friday February 8th. The finance and games committees were scheduled to hold meetings prior to this.

The meeting sent its best wishes to Kevin Ryan who is recuperating after an accident.
