U-10 HurlingThe U-10’s had a very busy, successful and enjoyable year commencing with indoor training in February and concluding with our own tournament at the end of October. In addition to weekly coaching sessions, the panel competed in 40 games between challenges, tournaments and the U-11 Community Games competition. The highlight of the year was undoubtedly the success in the community games competition culminating in the County Final Victory over Ballingarry on June 1st in Semple Stadium. The community games journey ended in the Munster Semi-Final defeat to the Limerick champions after previously defeating the Clare champions in the first round. Tournament victories were recorded at the Roscrea, Toomevara and our own tournaments. Very good performances were also recorded to reach the final of the Naas tournament and also the shield final of the Ahane tournament. The Kilruane tournament was a great success with 29 hurlers representing the parish on 2 teams along with Toomevara, Drom-Inch, Moycarkey-Borris and Carrig. Selectors Jimmy Cahill, Brian England, Colin England, John Mulcahy.
U-8 HurlingTheU-8’s had a very busy schedule in 2009 competing in 20 challenge games. In each of those games played, a second game was organized for the 6-7 year old hurlers. Home and away games were played against Nenagh Eire Og, Toomevara, Roscrea, Burgess, Borrisoleigh, Templederry, Shannon Rovers, Upperchurch-Drombane, Cashel and Birr. Selectors Michael O’Neill, Jody Hurley, Pat Shanahan.
U-6 HurlingThe U-6’s were organized at this level for the first time in our history and by all accounts had great fun in the field in 2009 with lots of young hurling talent on display. Like the U-8’s they played a similar number of challenge games throughout the summer, the highlight being an away trip to Scariff, Co. Clare n a bus with 26 hurlers! A great day was had by all and credit is due to the selectors and organizers to take the group away on a trip such as this, and will live long in the memory for all concerned. Selectors Michael Grace, George O’Leary, Michael O’Meara, Tim Dwyer.
Divisional & County RepresentationStephen Cleary represented the club on the North Tipperary U-14 panel that played in the Peadar Cummins tournament. They beat the South in the semi final on a scoreline of 2-04 to 0-05. The Mid were the opponents in the final and victory went to the North 3-14 to 2-07. Jack Peters had a hectic schedule on 2 divisional teams and 1 county team. On the North U-15 team they overcame the South by 2-10 to 0-07 in a inter divisional competition which was played for the first time in 2009. They had a convincing victory in the final when they went on to defeat a Mid side 1-13 to 3-04. Jack was also on the County U-15 panel. Due to poor weather and unplayable pitches the Carrigdhoun U-15 Hurling tournament for 2009 was cancelled. Jack Peters, David Williams and Robert Ward were on the North Tipp U-16 panel. In the Garda cup they defeated South Tipp in the semi final 1-14 to 0-13. They were defeated by Mid Tipp in the final in Dolla on a 4-13 to 0-13 scoreline. In the U-16 Munster Championship they had wins over Limerick City East and Avondhu, and were beaten by East Clare. Mid Tipp again were the conquerors winning the semi final 1-13 to 1-08. North Tipp overcame Shandoun 3-08 to 1-02 in the shield final. Len Gaynor coached both the North and County U-16 panels. Parish SchoolsOur parish schools had a busy year throughout with Kilruane N.S. doing well on all fronts. They won both North Finals in football and hurling, and also added a County Camogie title to the roll of honour. Well done to all hurlers who participated in the schools championships in 2009 and a word of thanks to the Principals, teachers and club officers and members who help out on school match days. Saturday Coaching & Parish LeagueSaturday 30th May, MacDonagh Park, Cloughjordan saw the opening day of our Saturday Coaching. Seamus Hennessy was on hand to welcome and talk to young and old on the day. One of the highlights of the day was when Seamus told the U-6’s that they should have the hurl in their hand every chance that they can get, and when they come home from school to hit 100 balls off the wall or the gable end of the house. One 5 year old told Seamus that he wouldn’t be able to do this, and when Seamus asked why not? The reply was quick when he told Seamus I can’t count to 100! There were 64 hurlers in the field along with 14 coaches. Four groups the U-6’s, U-8’s, U-10’s and U-12’s worked seamlessly with each other throughout the summer, and thanks to the coaches who put in a big effort throughout the year to make the Saturday coaching as successful as it was. The Parish League preceded the Saturday Coaching and ran for the 4 Saturdays in May. The standard of the hurling was exceptional and all the games were closely contested affairs. Each team played four games and 46 hurlers from all over the parish participated in these absorbing encounters. Well done to the hurlers and to the 2 captains Caoilanin Conroy who led the famed De Wets to a 3 point win in the Plate final over a tough Gorry Rangers outfit captained by Kieran Brerton. Also to Jack Farrell captain of the legendary Kyle team who edged out the much fancied Knocknacree led by Conor Doheny by just 2 points in the Final. Nothing separated these 2 sides a week previous when they finished deadlocked on 16 points each. Thanks to Pat Williams for all his efforts to ensure this ran off as smoothly as it did. Thanks to the referee’s and to all the organizers and helpers on the day.

Croke Park TripThe U-12 and U-14 panels travelled to Croke Park on Sunday the 16th August and witnessed a Tipperary side put Limerick to the sword on a scoreline of 6-19 to 2-07. Hopefully it is a good omen for the new year as it is the first Tipperary victory witnessed by the juvenile club for a long time. 60 juvenile members travelled up to Dublin along with 7 adults. The first 54 secured the much coveted seat on the bus while the remainder made the trek to Dublin by other means. Thanks again to Michael Cahill of the senior club in helping and organizing the ticket requirements, and to the juvenile selectors and adult helpers on the day.
